Summary

Chris brings with him extensive experience gained through roles in diplomacy, the BBC, the United Nations, and a major multinational organisation. He has also coached within the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and worked in a range of international settings, including Afghanistan, Central Asia, Rwanda, Russia and Iraq, in capacities such as diplomat, journalist, and aid worker.

Chris is comfortable supporting clients experiencing all forms of anxiety, low mood, depression, PTSD, self-esteem difficulties and stress and takes a holistic and humanistic approach to getting better.

Experience

Chris grew up in a family that valued care and compassion. During university, he volunteered with a student counselling service, which sparked his interest in supporting others. His career has since taken him to a range of challenging environments, where he worked with international organisations to support communities during periods of hardship.

These experiences have shaped his reflective approach and deepened his understanding of how we perceive differences in others, how that can change, and the dilemmas within ourselves—and, critically, how we cope and can learn to cope better in challenging settings. He values curiosity within himself, is comfortable hearing a wide range of views, and strives to learn from them.

Clients value Chris’s compassion, insights, and his ability to offer challenge from a non-judgemental and non-confrontational standpoint.

As a writer, Chris is particularly attuned to the words we use and the meanings attached to them—both what is said and what is left unspoken.

Chris has deepened his therapeutic skills by recently completing a Postgraduate Diploma in High-Intensity CBT at the Charlie Waller Institute, University of Reading. This built upon two earlier foundations: during lockdown, Chris completed an MSc in Psychology and the Neuroscience of Mental Health at King’s College London to enhance his theoretical understanding of the mind and brain, and he was awarded a Diploma in REBT/CBT from the College of Cognitive Behavioural Therapies as he explored therapeutic approaches.

Interesting facts

Chris is developing his skills as a playwright, with his debut play being staged and another in the pipeline.
He is a trustee of a pro bono charity, which has helped train 30 Iraqi Kurds to deliver CBT in their homeland in response to the region’s experiences of trauma.
In his free time, Chris enjoys kayaking on the Thames and following his football team with enthusiasm.
