Are All Teachers Trained in Mental Health?

Not all teachers are trained in mental health, which highlights the importance of specialised training in this area. In the Oxfordshire region, there is a growing recognition of the need for mental health training in educational settings.

Our courses at Oxford CBT aim to bridge this gap by providing teachers with the essential skills and understanding required to support their students’ mental health. We collaborate with educational services and teaching alliances to ensure that our training is accessible and relevant.

By equipping teachers with this crucial knowledge, we contribute to creating a more supportive and aware educational environment for the wellbeing of both students and educators.

Three Core Components

What is a Mental Health Champion in School?

A Mental Health Champion in a school setting is a pivotal figure, embodying the commitment to promoting mental well-being among students and staff. These champions are teachers or staff members who have undergone specialised mental health training, enabling them to identify and address mental health issues within the school environment effectively.

In Oxfordshire, the role of a Mental Health Champion is gaining importance, reflecting a proactive approach to mental wellness in education. At Oxford CBT, our training courses equip these champions not only with the skills but also with the compassion and understanding necessary to foster a supportive and inclusive atmosphere in schools. They serve as key resources, offering guidance, peer support, and practical strategies to nurture the mental health of the school community.

I had sessions with Alice from Oxford CBT for around a year and can't thank her enough for her attention, knowledge, guidance and kindness which have been incredibly helpful and useful. It was very easy to communicate with Alice, she made me feel welcome and understood but also was very good at seeing the essence of what I was conveying and quickly noticing the points that needed addressing. Her approach was structured while allowing for diving into themes as they emerged. I am very happy I heard about Oxford CBT, it was a great match for me and I definitely recommend it..

I had a very positive experience with Oxford CBT, particularly with Georgie Boothroyd, who carried out my daughter’s ADHD assessment. From the outset, he was incredibly patient, relatable, and easy to talk to. He created a calm and comfortable environment, which made a real difference—not just for me as a parent, but more importantly for my daughter. He has a natural ability to engage with children in a way that feels genuine and reassuring, which immediately put her at ease. What stood out most was his approach. He listened carefully, did not make assumptions, and avoided any sense of judgement. The assessment felt thorough and thoughtful, rather than rushed or formulaic. He took the time to understand my child properly, allowing her space to express herself without pressure. He was also consistently professional, kind, and well-mannered throughout. You can tell he has real experience working with children—not just clinically, but personally as well, which comes through in how he communicates and connects. I used two different assessors for my twins due to availability, but in hindsight, I would have chosen Oxford CBT for both. The quality of care and approach here was genuinely excellent. I would highly recommend him to any parent seeking an ADHD assessment for their child.

We had 2 very useful and reassuring family sessions with Hsin-Ping. She gave very practical reassurance about how we can all work together in our family unit to support our daughter's move from primary to secondary school. She managed to get our daughter to open up very quickly about what was causing some of her behaviours and therefore could easily give simple suggestions. Our follow up appointment allowed for a review and adjustments and next steps. She suggested reading that we could follow up with. At no point was there any pressure and I felt it was a really positive experience for all of us.

I had CBT with OxfordCBT when I hit a very difficult point in my life, I was overwhelmed by anxiety and depression and couldn’t see a way forward or myself feeling better again. Working with Senior Therapist Katharine made such a difference. She helped me gently work through my feelings and recognise the patterns that were keeping me stuck. Week by week, things began to shift. I started to understand myself more, feel more in control, and slowly rebuild my confidence. I’m incredibly grateful for the support I received at Oxford CBT. I genuinely feel like I have my sense of hope and joy back, and I’m looking to the future with a positivity I didn’t think was possible before.

I had a very positive experience with David B. Opening up and talking about myself and my feelings is something that I’d always found very uncomfortable. Straight away David made me feel at ease. In comparison from the first session to the last, I felt like a completely different person with a deeper understanding of myself and a positive feeling of being able to manage any problems that arise in the future. If you are on the fence I would definitely recommend, you won’t regret it.

I chose to see Jr therapist Chris Bowers. After my initial session we met regularly and worked together on various coping mechanisms for anxieties and stresses which hugely helped me in my personal and professional life. I would highly recommend him as a therapist!

Online autism test is misleading and seemingly designed to get you to make an appointment. The lowest score you can apparently get is 16/42, which leads the test to recommend you make an appointment for further testing. I would question the ethnical nature of this company.
