Learn Mindfulness

Oxford CBT provides an 8-week course in mindfulness for stress taught by fully-accredited mindfulness teachers.

What is mindfulness?

Mindfulness is the practice of focusing one’s attention on the present moment while non-judgementally accepting the thoughts, feelings, and bodily sensations that arise.

Mindfulness has been used therapeutically for thousands of years to address the physical, psychological, and emotional aspects of health and wellbeing.

Today, modern science has proven the effectiveness of mindfulness at treating a wide range of conditions.

The four elements of mindfulness

Mindfulness has four elements:

  • Body awareness – noticing the physical sensations of the body
  • Self-awareness – noticing the internal workings of the mind such as recurring thought-patterns
  • Regulation of emotion – noticing your feelings and the source of those feelings
  • Regulation of attention – training your ability to focus attention and reduce mind wandering

What is mindfulness-based cognitive behavioural therapy?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy combines techniques from mindfulness like meditation, breathing exercises, and stretching with techniques from cognitive behavioural therapy in order to disrupt negative thought-patterns.
